Croix De Beaucaillou 2008, Saint-Julien
Croix De Beaucaillou2008 is an outstanding wine which exhibits a dense purple colour along with a sweet kiss of cassis, liquorice, incense and graphite. Fruity and medium to full-bodied, with an impressive texture and supple tannins, this wine should drink well for another 5 years or so and today it is perfect for drinking now.

The grapes were harvested manually and were sorted in the vineyards on mobile tables to avoid contact between unhealthy and healthy grapes during transport to the winery. The vinification of each plot of vines was done individually to optimise the choice of blends. The fermentations were also carried out separately to take account of distinct terroirs, grape varieties and vintage characteristics. For Croix De Beaucaillou, between 20 and 40% of new barrels were used according to the richness of the vintage. The barrels (225l Bordeaux barriques, French oak) were supplied by 5 carefully selected cooperages and the wine was matured in them for 12 months.
From Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
This second wine has improved immensely under the administration of Bruno Borie, and the 2008 Croix de Beaucaillou is a sensual effort displaying sweet tannins, copious quantities of black currant and blueberry fruit, medium to full body, and a long finish with no hard edges. A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot, it should drink beautifully for 15 or more years. Bruno Borie deserves accolades for the remarkable things he has accomplished at Ducru Beaucaillou over the last few years.
