Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Au Closeau 2015

£52.00

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Au Closeau, which lies in front of Les Corbeaux, is only bottled separately by one or two growers, others' holdings too small and usually blended into other vineyards. It has a sultry bouquet with subtle earthy scents infusing the brambly red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. It feels linear and maybe conservative, but there is plenty of freshness and there are attractive bright red cherries and crushed strawberry on the finish. Enjoy this over 5-7 years. - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate.

Drouhin-Laroze's parcel of vines in the Au Closeau vineyard was planted in 1943 and measures 0.44ha, or 80% of the total surface area - almost a monopoly for the Domaine. Au Closeau is located at the southern end of Gevrey-Chambertin, across from Mazis-Chambertin. The name derives from "Clou", which, in Burgundy is synonymous with "Clos” and is a reminder that this vineyard was once enclosed by a wall.
