Coriole Lloyd Reserve Shiraz

45.45 RRP: £50.00

Free Delivery with Orders over £75

Coriole Lloyd Reserve Shiraz shows intense red and black fruit; cherry and mulberry, along with rosehip floral notes and sweet spice on the nose. The palate is long, complex and concentrated, but in no way overblown or unbalanced. It shows red cherry and blackcurrant fruit, rosewater, sweet herbal spice and plentiful but supple tannins that intertwine with the oak flavours to build a lovely creamy texture. A graceful wine that will age well and one that is also drinking wonderfully now.

Shiraz was first planted in McLaren Vale way back in the 1850s. Lloyd Reserve Shiraz is produced from a single vineyard at Coriole that was planted in 1919, although the first wine was only released in 1989.

The deep soil has allowed the roots of these old vines to dig down a long way and generally no irrigation is required. The wine was matured in French oak for approximately 18 months and then spent about 12 months in bottle before release. The 2014 vintage was a perfect vintage in McLaren Vale, with great winter and spring rainfall and a long ripening season with no extended periods of heat. The resulting wines are well poised with supple tannin and great concentration.

From James Halliday's Wine Companion:
97 year old vines, hand-picked, destemmed, open-fermented with cultured yeast, 12 days on skins, matured in French oak (20-30% new) for 20 months. What a treasure trove the McLaren Vale has with vines/grapes/wines coming from ancient vines that signal all is well. The strength of the message is so powerful and clear you wonder why the Scarce Earth programme occupies such effort and time, unfairly taking attention away from the glory of wines such as this.
