Domaine De La Coume Du Roy Maury 2001 (50 cl)
Domaine De La Coume Du Roy Maury 2001 is a deep, dark garnet colour with just a suggestion of terracotta. On the nose are aromas of ultra ripe black cherry and blackberry, fig jam, nuts and a dusting of cocoa. These carry through onto the palate, where the sweet fruit flavours are balanced by fresh acidity and plenty of velvety tannins. As the beginnings of a tuilé ("tile" or brick) colouration indicate, the palate has begun to develop a hint of the rancio (nutty, oxidised) character that comes from prolonged periods of barrel ageing. Rich, long and complex.

After harvesting, the grapes were destemmed and, after three weeks of maceration, were gently pressed in a pneumatic bladder press. Fortification stopped the fermentation, and the wine was matured for 18 months in stainless steel vats before being transferred into old oak tuns for further ageing. It was bottled with a residual sugar level of 102g/l.
