Domaine De L'Arlot Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Rouge Clos Des Forets Saint Georges 2009 has a well-defined character, this wine perfectly illustrates the identity of the Nuits Saint Georges Clos Des Forêts Saint Georges vineyard. Complex aromas of blackcurrant mingled with spicy blackberry fruit are revealed on the nose with darker notes of liquorice and leather. The well-built palate is dense and firm around a tight structure with rich, well-wrapped tannins. It becomes increasingly seductive over time, which comes from the elegance, intensity and purity of the fruit.

Clos des Forêts Saint Georges is only made with grapes from the vineyard's oldest vines as they give darker, more intense wines and express the very best of this exceptional terroir. Traditional vinification methods are used: the grapes are hand-picked, there is minimal cuvaison (maceration of the grape skins) and pumping-over is done sparingly to let things happen naturally to reveal the soul of the wine.
2009 saw a mild spring that gave the vines a sudden head start. August was magnificent with lots of sun, high temperatures and very little rain. September was ideal, with sun and a north wind right up until the end of harvesting. The harvest started on September 7th, with the Domaine's young vines, and finished on September 16th. The quality of the grapes was magnificent and they hardly needed to be sorted.
From Antoni Galloni writing on Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Clos Des Forêts Saint Georges comes across as dark, brooding and totally intense. Black cherries, tar, liquorice, smoke and menthol are some of the many notes that are woven together in this rich, deep wine. There is a baritone register to the fruit that is absolutely gorgeous. The powerful, structured finish begs for considerable cellaring and suggests a long life of great drinking lies ahead. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034. 94 Points
I was blown away by Domaine De l’Arlot’s 2009s when I tasted them from bottle. Most of the wines came in at the high end or above my projected scores from barrel. I found a purity and frankness in these wines that was compelling.
