Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Chambertin-Clos De Bèze Grand Cru 2011

Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Chambertin-Clos De Beze Grand Cru 2011 has an intense purple colour with fragrances of small, red fruits and liquorice providing a majestic quality to the nose. On the palate the attack is balanced, clear, sound and rich. Its very fine, spicy and precise tannins offer roundness and lightness on the finish. With a hint of rose petals, this elegant wine is sensual and seductive right to the end. A wine to be laid down.

Although vines were first planted here as early as 630AD by the monks of the Bèze abbey, Drouhin-Laroze's 1.5 hectares of Chambertin-Clos De Bèze was planted in 1949. In his book "Le Vin De Bourgogne" of 1920, Camille Rodier noted that Chambertin-Clos De Bèze contained all of the qualities of great Burgundy. It's nice to see that some things never change.

From Neal Martin writing on Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The oak comes through stronger than on Drouhin-Laroze's Chambertin Clos De Beze 2011 compared to that of Bruno Clair. The fruit is broodier and only reluctantly reveals blackberry and wild raspberry scents, touches of orange blossom later. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, thickset tannins that lend this weight and muscle. Bold and forward with touches of spice and white pepper toward the finish, this is an assertive Clos De Bèze that will require several years in bottle. Drink 2019-2040. 92 Points

From Allen Meadows'
An extraordinarily spicy and complex nose evidences cool, fresh and admirably pure aromas of cassis, red berries and plum. There is a floral note on the remarkably rich, concentrated and extract-rich flavours that really coat the palate on the dusty, long and impressively deep finish. A classic Bèze and well worth considering. Drink 2023+. 92-95 Points
