Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2011

Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2011: "There is a trace of exoticism here as well with a similar set of aromas, though here the floral elements are more pronounced and the overall complexity is enhanced relative to that of the [2011] Criots. There is excellent precision and punch to the broad-shouldered, concentrated and very serious flavours that are shaped by a firm acid spine on the linear, explosive and markedly saline finish. This is terrific and possesses outstanding development potential. In a word, impressive." Allen Meadows, 94 Points

Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet are two grands crus which are equally shared by the two villages of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. Bâtard-Montrachet tends to be more powerful and mineral in its youth and has tremendous ageing potential. As it matures, it develops honey-like qualities, with spice and mineral notes, and becoming very rich and long on the finish. In most vintages, particularly with wines from a producer of the calibre of Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard, Bâtard-Montrachet can age for 15 years or more with proper cellaring.
