"The 2012 Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint Jean is from a warm protected vineyard that consequently offers the highest yields. It has a perfumed nose with scents of yellow flowers and orange peel that is alluring. The palate is rounded and generous in the mouth, as if you can almost feel that residual warmth, building to its vivacious weighty finish. Lovely!" 92 Points. Neal Martin, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate.

The Chassagne-Montrachet premier cru of Clos Saint Jean was once exclusively red wine territory and the red wines commanded higher prices than than most of the area's whites, but today Pinot Noir is much harder to find in the vineyard. Some commentators regard this as a shame because the ground seems better suited to Pinot Noir, but because the soils are somewhat denser here the white versions of Chassagne-Montrachet Clos Saint Jean tend to be a little more substantial than those of neighbouring crus.
