"The 2013 Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanee is broody and much more taciturn than the Caillerets, which is typical according to Céline. There are limestone scents here, touches of wet granite. The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry and then it fans out with lightly honeyed citrus fruit. It remains focused, feels long and tender in the mouth, though perhaps the Caillerets just has the edge apropos complexity. Whatever, you still would not kick this out of bed in the morning." 92 Points. Neal Martin, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate.

The steeply sloping, premier cru La Romanée vineyard has thin soils that are slightly pebbly and rich in fossils. It catches the sun in the morning but receives relatively little sunlight in the afternoon. As a result, it is always the last Chassagne-Montrachet vineyard to be harvested. This Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard version spent 12 months in oak, approximately 30% of which was new.
