Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot 2013

Free Delivery with Orders over £75

"The 2013 Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeots, whose vines are on the limit with Santenay and now sees a little more new oak compared to previous vintages, has a complex bouquet, more introspective than others with honeysuckle and jasmine scents, wet limestone underneath. The palate is smooth and very elegant in the mouth, the acidity perfectly judged and adorned with hints of white peach and brioche toward the finish. Lovely." 92 Points. Neal Martin, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate.

Morgeot, which lies mid-slope with a south-easterly exposure, is a perfect example of the Chassagne-Montrachet style. Morgeot lies on the border between the Côte d'Or and Saone-et-Loire regions, and it was actually the boundary in the Gallo-Roman period. At this time the plot of land was called Morga (from the Latin "Margo" which means edge or border) from which today's name Morgeot is derived.

The Abbey of Morgeot dates back to year 864, but around 1150 the Cistercian monks benefited from numerous donations and built a communal farm, vineyard and chapel in the vicinity. Although the Morgeot soil is composed of heavy red clay and limestone and usually produces wines of robust and rich characters, the Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot is rather more citrussy than many.
