Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Criots-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2009 has an overtly exotic yellow fruit nose that displays a pretty top note of citrus influence. The rich, full-bodied and muscular flavours possess excellent volume and plenty of power, before concluding in a mouth coating, complex and driving finish that is both quite dry and clean. A vintage such as 2009 really shows a richer wine such as Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet to best effect.

Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard has one of the largest pieces of the smallest grand cru in the Côte de Beaune, their beautiful Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet. Clive Coates has termed the Fontaine-Gagnard Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet “one of the very best sources for this tiny grand cru.” There is always a touch of exotic complexity in its Criots, as it offers up lovely spice elements and an almost salty nuance to go along with the layers of apple and pear fruit and fine base of chalky minerality.

More pebbly and steeper than Bâtard-Montrachet above it, Criots enjoys more sunshine and the wines are rather richer and more exotic.
