Domaine Jean-Marc Bouley Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes De Beaune 2012

Domaine Jean-Marc Bouley Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes De Beaune 2012 has a nose that is focused and really quite floral, demonstrating an unexpected degree of complexity for its appellation. Medium-bodied and initially a little taut and citric on the palate, there is plenty of lasting, red fruit supported by lovely, slightly angular tannins. Plenty of richness to the finish.

Despite the disastrous hailstorm on 30th June that destroyed 30-40% of his harvest, Thomas Bouley has managed to produce an impressive and delicious set of wines in 2012 that come highly recommended. His policy of combining climats traditionally bottled separately was an astute move. This Hautes-Côtes De Beaune Rouge comes from the top of the Volnay hill where the soil is red and rocky.
