Domaine Jean-Marc Bouley Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets 2008 has a subtle bouquet with light raspberry and fresh strawberry fruit and granitic scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry. The fruit is ripe and multi-layered, and there is an attractive feeling of poise and femininity here. There is no noticeable oak and the tannins are so well integrated, ripe and delineated that they merely announce their presence without interfering with the flavour profile. This is a sophisticated Volnay, a floral and beguiling expression of its terroir that will age well.

Domaine Jean-Marc Bouley Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets comes from 0.16 hectares of young vines and, although Thomas often uses a percentage of whole bunches in his fermentations, the grapes for this wine are entirely destemmed. Thomas Bouley is a great friend of Nicolas Rossignol and he follows much the same route in obtaining wines of remarkable precision and style. 2008 saw a return to the extremely high quality levels we expect of him, especially after the rain-related turmoils of recent vintages.
