Domaine Lucien Boillot Pommard 1er Cru Les Fremiers 2013 is much darker in colour than wines from the neighbouring village of Volnay, and this premier cru Pommard is a deep, powerful and minerally style of Pinot Noir. The nose is intense with concentrated aromas of blackberries, cherries and plums. On the palate, succulent berry fruits and a slight herbal note gives way to supple, soft tannins and excellent length.

The Lucien Boillot estate’s clay and limestone based premier cru Les Frémiers plot is less than a third of an acre of almost 50-year-old vines, making this wine remarkably hard to come by. Non-interventionist practices in the vineyards and in the cellar mean this wine ferments with only natural yeasts before ageing for about 17 months and being bottled without filtration.

Les Frémiers is a premier cru climat of the Pommard appellation in the Côte De Beaune. Wines made from grapes grown within the climat may claim the Pommard premier cru title and also cite the Les Frémiers name on their labels.

Les Frémiers is part of the same lieu-dit (a French term for a geographical area with a traditional name) as the Fremiets climat in neighbouring Volnay. The two vineyards have identical pronunciations, but are quite capable of producing distinct styles of wine, the Pommard being heavier and more rustic, the Volnay being lighter and more restrained.
