Domaine Pierre Gaillard Cornas has 18 months in 50% new barrels, and it offers lots of typical Cornas style in its gamey, damp forest notes, saddle leather, dried herbs, spice and sweet black cherry and blackberry fruit profile. The palate of this medium to full-bodied, supple, balanced Cornas is sprinkled throughout with cigar box spice and it carries plenty of cassis all the way through to the finish.

This parcel of 70 year old Syrah vines was acquired by Pierre Gaillard in 2006, and it is the most southerly of his northern Rhône vineyards. It is situated on granite slopes that offer good drainage and that retain the warmth of the sun trapped by the natural semi-amphitheatre that is Cornas.

The hand harvested grapes were sorted and de-stemmed before fermentation. Regular pressing down of the cap during fermentation developed the aromas and aided the extraction of tannins. It spent 18 months in Allier and Nevers oak barrels and was racked every 4 months.
