Domaine Rapet Père Et Fils Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile de Vergelesses 2017
This superb red Burgundy is the issue of 50 year old vines that give wines for keeping. The vineyard itself is situated between the 1er Crus of Les Vergelesses in Savigny and Les Vergelesses in Pernand-Vergelesses, hence the name Ile or island. This 2017 is sweetly fruited, rich in flavour with smooth ripe tannins. It is subtle and elegant but never lacking in depth of flavour, it is good to go now but will hold in bottle for a further 12 to 15 years. A great wine from a great grower.

Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vergelesses has a particularly fine eastern exposure and is situated along the road going from Beaune towards Pernand. The slope is gentle and erosion is limited by limestone banks. The soil takes on a red colour due to the iron rich ferruginous clay present in the ground.
