Domaine Rapet’s new white premier cru Pernand-Vergelesses, named Sous Frétille, comes from a parcel of vines situated right below the chapel of Notre Dame De Bonnes Espérance, overlooking Pernand.

Frétille is the name of the hill, measuring 385m high, where the beautiful village of Pernand nestles. The name comes from the medieval term “freste” or ridge, which over time resulted in the derivative “frétille”.

The vines grow some fifty metres further up the slope than Rapet’s Clos Du village cru, although they both benefit from the same southerly exposure. However, Sous Frétille’s slope is steeper and the soil is poorer: just 40cm of top soil covers the white marl and limestone. Here Chardonnay develops a finesse and an elegance that highlights its incomparable touch of minerality.
