Domaine Tollot-Beaut Corton Grand Cru 2013

Nathalie Tollot has said that they lost around a quarter of their 2013 Domaine Tollot-Beaut Corton Grand Cru because of hail, but what they were left with is truly a joy to drink. The oak influence is still quite noticeable on the nose, although it will integrate with a little more age. The palate is nicely balanced with supple tannins and a keen thread of acidity. The oak is well contained by the fruit and the structure, and there is fine mineral presence on the taut finish.

Up on the Corton hills is where Domaine Tollot-Beaut’s best 2013 wines come from, especially their fine Le Corton. Mother nature’s wrath led 2013 to be the smallest vintage in Burgundy in the last 13 years, but a natural thinning of the crop meant that the remaining grapes were of very high quality. There is a tenderness, a sense of balance, a relaxed profundity and above all a transparent fidelity to their respective terroirs that will make this "forgotten" vintage a future classic.
