The 2003 vintage of Elena Walch Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva Castel Ringberg now shows a lovely rich garnet colour and its complex bouquet is characterised by spicy, slightly smoky toast aromas, a touch of bitter chocolate, as well as ripe, fruity notes of dark berries and some leafy, forest floor notes in the background. On the palate, the potential of this Cabernet Sauvignon has been fully realised with a structure of firm but ripe tannins, a chewy density of dark fruit, well integrated oak and a long-lasting finish.

The Elena Walch Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva is a single vineyard wine from the Castel Ringberg estate above the famous Lake of Kaltern (Lago di Caldaro). The vines are planted on a south-facing hillside where the calcareous clay soils are inter-glacial in origin.

This Cabernet Sauvignon was fermented and matured for 18 months in French oak barriques (Limousine and Allier), almost all of which was new. The wine was subsequently aged in the bottle for several months before being released.
