Les Pagodes De Cos 2014, Saint-Estèphe

An open and full wine with plenty of black fruit aromas and flavours with hints of menthol and lead pencil and a faint trace of bitter chocolate behind. Moderately full bodied on the palate with decent balance and structure, it is good to go now but should develop further over the coming decade if well stored. 90 points Robert Parker

Les Pagodes De Cos is, strictly speaking, Château Cos D’Estournel’s second wine. The vines that produce it will eventually be used for the Grand Vin which is an 1855 Grand Cru Classé. They are grown on the same terroir and are treated in the same way, they are simply younger vines and their roots have yet to grow to their full depth in the gravelly soil.
