Louis Roederer Champagne Blanc De Blancs 2000 is yellow with light greenish/gold highlights and a wonderfully persistent bead of ultra-fine bubbles. Scents of crystallised citrus (oranges, lemons) mingle with sweeter notes of ripe fruit (apples, pears), honey-scented flowers and sweet pastry. Hints of caramel emerge, which is typical of Louis Roederer and an indication that some of the wines in the blend were wood-aged. On the palate, all of the signs of an impressively rich Blanc de Blancs are present, with a plump, creamy substance. It finishes with an assertive acidity, striking a perfect balance between dense fleshiness and concentrated fruit. The taste is like biting into crisp, almost plummy fruit with delicate aromas of juicy, ripe grapes, sweet pastries fresh from the oven and those subtly toasty notes that are the mark of lush Chardonnay grapes.

From 1830 onwards, the House of Louis Roederer acquired extensive knowledge of the terroirs and plot-by-plot vinification, and mastered the effervescence. In the heart of the Côte des Blancs, where the Chardonnay grapes attain optimal maturity on the calcareous soils, Louis Roederer has selected two exceptional grands crus: Mesnil-sur-Oger and Avize, whose unique characteristics and complementary nature enable the House to produce taut, highly aromatic wines that have finesse.

Grape harvesting began on September 18th, marking the first time in recorded history that the vintage started in all three Champagne regions on the same day. The sun shone in the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims throughout the duration of the picking which lasted two weeks. Heavy rain in July coupled with a hail storm gave way initially to slow maturing vines at the vineyards of Verzy, Verzenay, Aÿ and Erpernay, but fine weather throughout September resulted in a harvest of remarkable quality from beginning to end.

100% Chardonnay, Louis Roederer’s Blanc De Blancs Vintage cuvée is generally matured on lees for five years and left for a minimum of 6 months after dégorgement (disgorging) to attain perfect maturity.
