The Louis Roederer Cristal Rose 2000 has fine, consistent bubbles, with very persistent beading. On the nose, it is intense, fresh and very precise. The bouquet ranges across the entire spectrum of complex flavours, opening with scents of red berries (cherry), crystallised citrus peel and lightly roasted nuts, which after a few minutes airing in the glass are followed by aromas of ageing, such as almond and honey.
An admirably rounded attack brings further proof of the intensity of aroma that is typical of the 2000 vintage. Scents of white flowers mingle with flavours of red berries, caramel and tarte tatin. The texture on the front palate has all the roundness, generosity and refinement that is expected of Louis Roederer. The supporting structure is vinous but not overly robust, with a delightful freshness that underscores the wine’s precision while creating an impression of lasting finesse. A lush, refined and precise wine - powerful, exceptionally seductive and entirely characteristic of this classically ripe vintage.

After growth got off to a flying start at the end of April to the beginning of May, flowering took place from June 9-12. The vineyards of Verzy, Verzenay, Aÿ and Epernay, were hit by a violent hail storm in July, which destroyed approximately 45 hectares of vines. However, thanks to fine weather that held throughout the month of September, the first juices had excellent levels of sugar and acidity.
For the first time in recorded history, the vintage started in all three regions on the same day: September 18. The sun shone for the duration of the picking, which lasted two weeks, and the harvest remained of remarkable quality from beginning to end. Unflagging attention, frequent quality controls, new picking sequences every day, and exceptionally healthy grapes: All these factors reflect the painstaking work of the growers and their skill in producing grapes capable of yielding great wines.
A blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, it spends five years ageing on its lees before disgorgement and the dosage is 8-10g/l.

The 2000 Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé emerges from the glass in a stunning display of well-articulated aromas and flavours. Everything in is perfect balance as this perfumed wine opens up in the glass in a style that recalls the weightless transparency of a great Burgundy. The finish is long, sweet and incredibly refined. I came back to the bottle several hours after opening, and the wine had blossomed into an extraordinary Champagne. In 2000, the Cristal Rosé is 60% Pinot Noir from Ay and 40% Chardonnay from Mesnil, Avize and Oger. Roughly 15% of the wine was aged in oak. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2020. 95 Points
