Mists And Mellow Fruitfulness Mixed Case

September is probably my favourite month of the year. There's a hint of a chill in the air giving rise to beautifully evocative seasonal mists as the sun sets and rises; the leaves have turned all of the colours of the rainbow; and it's time to harvest much of our farmed and wild bounty from earth, air and water.
From a late season wild salmon to new season oysters and mussels; from grouse, partridge and pheasant to rabbit and venison; from mushrooms and truffles to nuts and orchard fruits; such fabulous ingredients demand great wine pairings. Rest assured that we won't let you down.
An undeservedly not-so-well-known white grape variety begins this month's collection: Garganega, in the form of a Soave by Corte Adami. Zesty and minerally, this is as good an apéritif as it is a partner to all manner of fish and seafood dishes. The DeMorgenzon Garden Vineyards Rosé offers delicate berry fruit and spice wrapped around a fresh and food friendly structure.
As for this months' reds, Ciabot Berton's Fisetta Barbera D'Alba is just the little firework that its name suggests it to be. Its fresh acidity, ripe tannins and bright red fruits certainly explode onto your palate. Classic Malbec with a lick of new oak is up next from Château Famaey in Cahors, the grape's homeland on the outskirts of the Bordeaux region. Bodega Toneles' Tonel 46 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a seriously full bodied mouthful, perfect for the richest and meatiest of main courses. A bottle of Vieux Château Perey rounds off the half dozen, a deliciously elegant Saint-Émilion that is predominantly Merlot-based.
Far from being a lament to the passing of summer, this selection is a celebration of the arrival of autumn.
