Moccagatta Barbaresco Bric Balin 2006 has black cherry, liquorice, menthol and toasted oak on the nose. Dense and sweet, with a freshness and lift to its black cherry flavours. There's a medicinal, backward quality to this young Barbaresco, along with a great depth of fruit to support the firm tannins. It finishes sweetly and persistently, but it still needs a few years in the cellar.

The Bric Balin vineyard is the jewel of the Moccagatta estate, its Nebbiolo vines grow in calcareous blue marl soil. The grapes underwent a long maceration on their skins in temperature-controlled steel tanks, before being aged for 18 months in French oak barriques, approximately 40% of which were new. An elegant, velvety wine with dense red fruits, cocoa and spice, it is built for the long haul.

From Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
The 2006 Moccagatta Barbaresco Bric Balin reveals lovely clarity and freshness in its succulent red cherries, flowers, minerals and menthol. Here the tannins show a touch more elegance than in the Basarin. The oak is beautifully integrated in this elegant and refined Bric Balin. 92 Points, 10/09

From Wine Spectator:
Fascinating aromas of raspberry and Christmas pudding, with dried dark fruits. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a rich palate, showing vanilla, chocolate and berry, with hints of meat. Juicy and beautiful. 92 Points, 09/09
