Christa Deans makes all of the Rolf Binder white wines. The daughter of Rolf Binder senior who established Veritas Winery, Christa spent time in Champagne working with delicate white wines, as well as with Wolf Blass as winemaker responsible for whites. Her soft touch and delicacy with the elegance of white wine is truly expressed in this Rolf Binder Highness Eden Valley Riesling, as it is in all of the wines she makes.
The fruit for this Riesling is sourced from two Eden Valley vineyards - Christa’s own vineyard on the western side of the valley, with supplemental fruit from a select grower in the township of Eden Valley. Warm days and cool nights in this higher altitude, sub region of the Barossa ensure that the grapes develop ripe, intense fruit flavours while still retaining appealing acidity.
The growing season for every vintage is different and this greatly influenced flavours and vineyard yields. During the 2014 winter, Rolf Binder was blessed with plenty of rain to fill the soil profile. Vines had enough moisture to grow and yields were higher than in previous years. Flowering was early with a mild summer, allowing the grapes to ripen evenly resulting in vibrant, aromatic wines. Vineyards were harvested in early March and the batches of fruit were processed and fermented separately at the winery. The resulting wines were blended together and then bottled at the end of April.
