Sauvignon Blanc. The many lovers of this well known white wine are already familiar with its crisp, zesty fruit and its refreshing acidity. On the other hand, those of you just starting out on your vinous voyage of exploration might be wondering what the fuss is all about. Well, hopefully this mixed case will appeal to both parties: it includes a selection of great Sauvignon Blancs from around the world and it serves as a brilliant introduction to this distinctive grape variety.

Originally a native of Bordeaux, where it is traditionally blended with Sémillon and Muscadelle to form majestic dry and sweet wines and where it naturally crossed with Cabernet Franc to give the world Cabernet Sauvignon, today it is the Loire Valley that most people regard as being the region of France synonymous with Sauvignon Blanc.

This selection includes three brilliant Loire wines, the first of which is our Touraine Sauvignon from Château De La Presle. Packed with crisp, gooseberry fruit, this mouthwatering gem is what Loire Sauvignon is all about. The other two are both produced by Domaine Hubert Brochard and come from the Loire's top dry white appellations. Its Sancerre Terroir De Silex has bright gooseberry and nettle flavours balanced by chalky minerality and a hint of smokiness, thanks to the flint ("silex") soils of the area. Poiully-Fumé lies just across the river from Sancerre, and Brochard's Vieilles Vignes (old vines) version is harvested slightly later than usual and is atypically full-bodied and ageworthy as a result.

Moving to the new world, we really couldn't begin with anything other than a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Bascand Estate make a textbook Kiwi example with a lovely balance of tropical fruit and herbaceousness. Valle Andino's Sauvignon Blanc Reserva Especial from Chile is rather more citrussy and zesty, with notes of passion fruit on the palate. Finally, Bouchard Finlayson's excellent Sauvignon from South Africa has a Loire-like delicacy and elegance, yet with a level of ripeness that its French cousins can't always achieve.

Obviously, we recommend that you try all of these great wines and you might as well save yourself 5% in the process!

The 6 bottle case contains one bottle of each wine; the 12 bottle case contains two bottles of each wine.
