About Us

For over thirty years Gerrard Seel has specialised in sourcing distinctive, hand-crafted wines that truly reflect their origins without costing the earth.

Richard Hales and Roger Barlow founded Gerrard Seel in July 1984, and it remains under their independent ownership to this day. Initially using Roger’s mother’s kitchen as their office and Richard’s grandmother’s garage as their warehouse, the arrival of two desks in their “office” meant that they were promptly served with an eviction notice and they were forced to find premises of their own.

Their careful stewardship has seen Gerrard Seel thrive since then and, although the size of the company has grown, its philosophy hasn’t changed. Excellence is key at Gerrard Seel, and Richard and Roger still take great pride in providing a level of personal service all too rarely found elsewhere - as the fact that many of their original customers still buy from them attests to.

With an ethos of only offering wines that they enjoy drinking, Gerrard Seel lists over 600 artisanal wines made by conscientious and passionate producers who respect their land and their heritage above all else. The pleasure a wine gives will always take precedent over it meeting a seemingly arbitrary price point. You can be certain that every one of their wines is the most enjoyable and authentic example of its kind because the Gerrard Seel logo is Richard and Roger’s guarantee of a great bottle.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Gerrard and Seel were the maiden names of their mothers!
