Lebanon
Despite a long history of wine making in Lebanon, the present day industry remains small and is centred around the Bekaa Valley. Despite a civil war here, wines continued to be made and a great reputation was made by such wineries as Chateau Musar and Chateau Ksara and Kefraya.
Most of the production is red and for grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cinsault, vineyard sites at around 1000 meters above sea level are not uncommon to retain freshness within the grapes.
These can be excellent wines albeit with a healthy price-tag due to the low production but there remains an almost cult following for them.
